Self care

Sometimes, taking time for yourself is exactly what you need to be there for the people you love most. It’s not selfish; it’s necessary.

I often think about that analogy they use on planes—how, in an emergency, the mum is told to put on her oxygen mask first before helping her child. At first, it feels counterintuitive. As parents, carers, or simply as people who care deeply for others, we instinctively want to give, to help, to put everyone else first. But the truth is, you can’t pour from an empty cup.

I was reminded of this today. It’s so easy to get caught up in the busyness of life, pushing through and ignoring the signs that you need a moment to breathe. But pausing, even for a little while, isn’t a luxury; it’s an act of love—for yourself and for those who depend on you.

Take the time. Listen to what your soul needs. Whether it’s a quiet walk, a hot bath, a cup of tea in peace, or simply sitting in silence, honour that space for yourself. It’s in those moments that healing begins.

From my soul to yours,
